The Maze Runner

When Thomas wakes up trapped in a massive maze with a group of other boys, he has no memory of the outside world other than strange dreams about a mysterious organization known as W.C.K.D. Only by piecing together fragments of his past with clues he discovers in the maze can Thomas hope to uncover his true purpose and a way to escape.

The Maze Runner is not what you would expect it to be. You might think it’s one of those dumb YA rip-off failures, but it’s actually an intriguing action story that is enjoyable from start to finish. All the cast is great, and so is the plot and the action. At first when I heard who the actors were I was a bit worried but actually they all did great.

I thought the movie was so fun and suspenseful, and I loved it. It lived up to my expectations and it does not disappoint. Many people are complaining about the ending, but I had no problem with it. I absolutely can’t wait for the sequel! I wish they would just play on instead of having to wait another year! Overall, The Maze Runner is an awesome movie that does not disappoint.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

A decade after the virus created by the apes killed most of humanity, the remaining humans and the apes find themselves at the brink of a war that will determine who will become Earth’s dominate species.

This film is absolutely awesome. The CGI of the apes looked very realistic (I could tell they weren’t real apes becuase the director would never be able to get real apes to do those stuff, but the CGI looked pretty real). Some scenes were very emotional and made me almost cry (not really cry, but feel very emotional inside). I really liked the story between the humans and the apes, and it kept me interested and excited the whole time.

I loved Andy Serkis’ performance as Caesar, and I think it’ s his best performance yet. He definetley deseves an Oscar nod for this role. I also really liked Jason Clarke as Malcolm. He had the heart that James Franco had in the previous installment. He was a good choice to play the role. Gary Oldman’s character was great, although it was a very small role, but with a very important position. I think whoever played Koba was awesome. Koba is bascially this very tough ape who holds a grudge against humans for his mistreatment. Koba will do anything to take down the humans and he will make any ape unwilling to follow him pay for it. Overall, the cast is great and nobody in this movie does a bad job.

Here’s my conclusion: This movie has amzing visual effects, awesome action scenes, great acting (especially Andy Serkis), and and it has a great plot that keeps you excited and interested the entire time.  I would recommend it for anyone 12 and up!

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

The dwarves, along with Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey, continue their quest to reclaim Erebor, their homeland, from Smaug. On their way, they meet Legolas and Tauriel, two elf archers who help battle the orc invasions from Dol Guldur. They also meet Bard, a bowman who is determined to kill the dragon after his ancestor failed to when Smaug took over Erebor and Dale. Meanwhile, Gandalf and Radagast battle the Necromancer and discover his true identity. Eventually, Bilbo and the dwarves reach the mountain, and finally battle Smaug. The film’s cast includes Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Luke Evans, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lily, Lee Pace, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett, and Sylvester McCoy.

I saw this movie on Friday (Dec. 13) with my friend, my dad, and my brother. We all really enjoyed the movie. I thought it was way better than the original Hobbit movie. The visual effects and soundtrack are just amazing! I enjoyed every moment of the movie! My favorite characters were Legolas and Tauriel. You can tell that they both have that bad-ass spirit that other movie characters have, such as Richard B. Riddick (played by Vin Diesel) from the Riddick movies, and Hit-Girl from the Kick-Ass movies. The film’s ending (don’t worry, I won’t spoil anything) is such a cliff-hanger that I absolutely cannot wait another year to watch the trilogy’s finale (which hits theaters next December). I think any fans of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies should watch this movie, since it’s a prequel to them. But you should only see it after you have seen the first Hobbit movie. I would recommend this movie for kids 12 and up, since there is a lot of violence, including slicing off heads (no blood shown).
