Bruce Almighty

My rating:

Yesterday I saw the movie Bruce Almighty, which I really enjoyed and thought it was really funny. The movie stars Jim Carrey, Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, Lisa Ann Walter, Phillip Baker Hall and Cathrine Bell. It is about a man named Bruce Nolan (played by Jim Carrey), who is a reporter for Eyewitness News at Buffalo, New York. He lives with his girlfriend, Grace Conelly(played by Jennifer Aniston), who he will soon be engaged with. One day, Bruce is fired for making obscence remarks at a live broadcast in Niagra Falls. Later, he meets God (played by Morgan Freeman), who gives him cool powers like his own, and he soon is known as Mr. Exclusive. I think Bruce Almighty is one of Jim Carrey’s most funny movies (another movie I really enjoyed starring Jim Carrey is Mr. Popper’s Penguin’s), and I also think that the most funny parts in the movie are when Bruce uses his new almighty powers to do supernatural things, like pulling the moon closer to the Earth with his bare hands, which makes the moon look larger in the sky, driving his car at hyperspeed, and using his hands to mimic parting the Red Sea in a red soup bowl. Even the trailer of the movie would make you laugh. I would reccomend this movie for kids my age or older and adults. This film is now available on DVD and Blu-ray.

Good Luck Charlie, It’s Christmas!

My rating:

2 days ago, I saw the movie Good Luck Charlie, It’s Christmas! The movie was OK, but it was funny, too. It is based on the 2010 Disney Channel TV show Good Luck Charlie, and it is the story of the Duncan family (Bob(dad), Amy(mom), PJ, Teddy,  Gabe, and Charlie(kids)), who plan to go to Palm Springs, California for Christmas to visit Amy’s parents, Petunia (played by Debra Monk) and Hank (played by Michael Kagan). But when Teddy (played by Bridgit Mendler) gives up her airplane seat for a free flight ticket for her spring break trip to Florida (Amy (played by Leigh-Allyn Baker) also leaves the plane, not wanting Teddy to travel alone), they go on a long adventure to Palm Springs, and try to get there before Christmas. The rest of the cast includes Bradley Steven Perry as Gabe, Mia Talerico as Charlie, Eric Allen Kramer as Bob, Jason Dolley as PJ, and Raven Goodwin as Ivy, Teddy’s best friend. This movie is one of my favorite Disney Channel movies (another one of my favorite Disney Chanell movies is Frenemies), and I would recommend this movie for the whole family. This movie is now available on DVD.

Mrs. Doubtfire

My rating:

Yesterday, I saw the movie Mrs. Doubtfire. I really enjoyed it and I thought it was funny. It is about a voice actor named Daniel Hillard (played by Robin Williams), who, after a divorce with a woman named Miranda (played by Sally Field), is told that he can only see his children once a week, and he thinks that it is not enough, so he dresses up as a woman named ”Mrs. Doubtfire” and becomes his children’s housekeeper, letting him see them more. I think this is one of Robin Williams’ best and funniest movies (another one of my favorite movies starring Robin Williams is Hook). I also liked Sally Field’s role as Daniel’s ex-wife, Miranda Hillard. The rest of the cast includes Lisa Jakub, Matthew Lawrence, and Mara Wilson as Daniel and Miranda’s children and Pierce Brosnan as Stuart Dunmire, Miranda’s boyfriend after her divorce with Daniel. I think that the moral of the movie is that even if your parents don’t love each other, they’ll still always love you. I would reccomend this movie for the whole family.

Men in Black 3

My rating:

Yesterday, I saw the movie Men in Black 3. I really enjoyed the movie and thought it was really funny. I also really liked the action sequences of the movie. Barry Sonnenfeld directs the film, like he also directed the first 2 films in the ”Men in Black” trilogy. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones return to portray the two MIB senior agents J and K. One day, an intergalactic criminal named Boris the Animal (played by Jemaine Clement) escapes from jail and wants to get revenge on K. K had shot of one of Boris’ arms and aressted him on July 16, 1969. In order to get revenge, Boris time-jumps back to July 16, 1969 and kills the 1969 version of K (played by Josh Brolin). J soon realizes that Boris had time-jumped to 1969 and killed the younger K, so he time-jumps to July 15, 1969 (a day before the modern-day Boris arrived and killed the younger K), where he meets the 29-year old K and together, they go on a mission to kill the younger Boris before the modern-day Boris arrives and kills the younger K. I also really liked Emma Thompson’s role as Agent O, the head of MIB in present day(Alice Eve plays the 1969 version of Agent O), and I also really liked Michael Stulbarg’s role as Griffin, an alien who moved to Earth after his own planet was destroyed. I would reccomend this movie for anyone who likes the ”Men in Black” trilogy or any other science fiction movies.

Moonrise Kingdom

My rating:

Yesterday, I saw the movie Moonrise Kingdom with my grandmother. We both really enjoyed the movie. It was pure pleasure and we both felt like we didn’t want it to end. Set in the summer of 1965 on an island called New Penzance, the protagonists are two 12-year old kids, Sam and Suzy. Sam is an orphan raised by foster parents and attending a scout summer camp. Suzy is a somewhat sad girl, living with her parents and her 3 brothers in a house called Summer’s End. Sam is rejected by everyone, including his foster parents and fellow scouts, while Suzy’s parents are constantly fighting and are showing no affection for their children and for each other. Sam and Suzy had met a year earlier at a church performance, became pen pals, and finally decided to run away together and leave on a remote beach away from everyone else. When their absence is discovered, everyone on the island begins to search for them, including the scout master, Sam’s fellow scouts, the local police captain, and Suzy’s parents. Sam and Suzy soon realize that they are soul mates, very much in love and won’t live without each other. Their love touches the hearts of Suzy’s parents, the police captain, the scout master and even Sam’s fellow scouts, and when Sam and Suzy are found, they all decide to help them stay together and the police captain decides to become Sam’s foster parent.

The setting of the movie felt like a fairy tale. It was partly funny and partly sad and touching and the drama was intensified by the forces of nature (flood, hurricane and lightning storm). The main idea which I found extremely touching, that the love between Sam and Suzy changed their lives and the lives of everyone around them. Sam and Suzy were both loveless children, but the love between them made all the difference and changed everyone’s lives.

The cast of the movie includes Bruce Willis as the police captain, Edward Norton as the scout master, Bill Murray and Frances McDormand as Suzy’s parents, Jared Gilman as Sam and Kara Hayward as Suzy. Moonrise Kingdom will be available on DVD and Blu-ray starting October 16.

The Magic of Belle Isle

My rating:

Yesterday, I saw the movie The Magic of Belle Isle with my grandfather. It is about a handicapped novelist named Monte Wildhorn, who has lost his intrest in writing after his struggle with alchololism. He takes a cabin in a place called Belle Isle for the summer, where he befriends a single mom who lives next door with her three daughters, who help him find inspiration again.  In the beginning of the movie, Morgan Freeman’s characher, Monte Wildhorn, feels like he wants to commit suicide: his wife, Mary, had died 6 years ago, he has stopped writing, and he can no longer walk or use his left arm. But after meeting Charlette O’Neil, the woman next door, he begins to soften a little, and also starts telling the girls the secrets of being an author. In one scene, after reading a eulogy written by someone else, Wildhorn hands the paper back to the author, telling him,”Don’t change a word.” That tells us that he had liked how the author wrote the speech. Virginia Madsen’s character, Charlette O’Neil, is a very pleasing woman. She wants to serve everyone and wants everything to be fine. Her character helps to build the relationship between the miserable Wildhorn and herself. I think it is a movie about friendship, family and love and I also think it is a little funny. I would reccomend this movie for everyone, including adults.

Cars 2

My rating:

Yesterday, I saw the movie Cars 2 again and I enjoyed it like I did in theaters. It’s not as good as the first but will still amuse kids. It is about a tow truck named Mater, who is a race car named Lightning McQueen’s best friend. But one day, during one of Lightning’s races, he is mistaken as  a spy by two secret agents named Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell, who want to stop a car named Professor Zundapp. Professor Z wants to destroy race cars who are racing in the World Grand Prix, which is a race around Tokyo, Italy, and London. Now Mater must help Finn and Holley defeat Professor Z and save the cars who are racing in the World Grand Prix, which includes Lightning. The voice cast of the movie includes Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen, Larry the Cable Guy as Mater, Micheal Caine as Finn McMissile, and Emily Mortimer As Holley Shiftwell. I think it is a movie about friendship and I would recommend this movie for everyone, including adults.

Also, here is the website of the movie. It includes fun games, cool videos (which includes trailes and clips), and more! And here is the Cars 2 trailer.

Ice Age: Continental Drift

My rating:

Yesterday, I went to see the movie Ice Age: Continental Drift with my grandmother and my brother. We really enjoyed the movie and thought it was funny. It is about Manny, a mammoth, Sid, a sloth, and Diego, a saber-toothed cat, who get seperated from Ellie, Manny’s wife, and Peaches, their teenage daughter by the Continental Drift. It is a true theory of how the ancient “supercontinent” Pangea broke into 7 continents, which include Africa, Europe, Asia, North and South America and Antarctica(In the movie, the Continental Drift is caused by a saber-toothed squirrel named Scrat, who tries to get his acorn in all 4 movies, but barely ever succeeds). In the ocean, they find a huge pirate ship led by an orangutan named Captain Gutt, and the crew includes an elephant seal named Flynn,a small rabbit named Squint, and a saber-toothed cat named Shira, with whom Diego later falls in love. Together, Manny, Sid and Diego must defeat the pirates and reunite with Ellie and Peaches. The movie tells us about the importance of true values like family, friendship and love, is against negative characteristics of pursuit of power and betrayal. I really liked the voice cast of the movie, which includes Ray Romano as Manny, Keke Palmer as Peaches, Queen Latifah as Ellie, Peter Dinklage as Captain Gutt, Jennifer Lopez as Shira, Josh Gad as Louis, a molehog who is Peaches’ best friend, and Drake as Ethan, a mammoth who Peaches has a crush on.

A Thousand Words

3 months ago, I went to see the movie A Thousand Words with my friend and his brother. I really enjoyed the movie and thought it was funny. It is about a man named Jack McCall, who makes book deals. One day, a tree mysteriously grows in his yard with 1,000 leaves on it. Every time Jack says a word, a leaf falls off the tree. When all the leaves fall off the tree, Jack and the tree will die. Using those words, Jack must find what matters most to him. I would recommend this movie for kids around my age (10) or older and adults. A Thousand Words is not in theaters anymore, but it is now on DVD and Blu-ray, so now you can see it on DVD or Blu-ray!
