Born To Be Wild, which I saw a few days ago, is a nice documentary about orphaned elephants and orangutans being raised by humans and being returned to the wild once they’re ready to, but I think the movie is way too short (it’s only 40 minutes long). The film is narrated by Morgan Freeman, and it features Daphne Sheldrick and Birute Galdikas, the two animal experts who raised the elephants and orangutans. In the movie, the animals act really smart, knowing that the humans are trying to help them and not harm them. I learned that although some people are really cruel to animals (hunters and poachers kill animals for no good reason but greed), if the rest of us care enough, we can help make the world a better place. This film is now on DVD and Blu-ray.

Yesterday I saw the movie Step Up Revolution with my cousin. It is the fourth movie in the ”Step Up” movie series (the previous movies are Step Up, Step Up 2: The Streets, and Step Up 3D). We both really liked the movie. It is about a girl named Emily (played by Kathryn McCormick) who moves with her father (played by Peter Gallagher) to Miami, where she falls in love with a man named Sean (played by Ryan Guzman), the leader of a dancing crew called the MOB. The crew want to win a dancing contest, but when Emily’s father threatens to destroy the MOB, they decide to turn their performance art into protest art. I really liked the dancing in the movie and I think this is the best of all 4 Step Up movies. I would recommend this movie for kids my age or older and adults. Step Up Revolution will be available on DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D starting November 27 in the United States.

Today I saw the movie ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’ with my grandmother. We both didn’t really like the movie, and we also thought that the end of the movie was really sad. It is about a fearless six-year-old girl named Hushpuppy who lives with her father, Wink, in a community called ”the Bathtub”. Wink is teaching her how to survive in the wild, preparing her for a time when he’s no longer there to protect her because he knew that he was very ill and dying. Soon, following a terrible storm, ”the Bathtub” is flooded, ice caps begin to melt, releasing ancient beasts, who begin to come to the Bathtub and Hushpuppy’s father’s illness deteriorates. With ”the Bathtub” being flooded, the beasts coming, and Wink’s health fading, Hushpuppy begins to search for her lost mother. I think Hushpuppy is a really fearless girl, not running away when the beasts come close to her, but instead tries to get into their souls. I also think that the people who lived in ”the Bathtub” were like animals or cave people in the sense that they lived a very primitive life, nourishing only on what they were able to hunt or fish. They were not touched by civilization and even tried to stay away and decline any kind of help (even medical assistance). Yet, they are very sensitive and extremely loyal and devoted to each other.
I recommend the movie for adults and teenagers, but definitely not for young children who might find the movie too scary and misunderstand the fine sensibilities and relationships between the protagonists.

2 days ago, I saw the movie The Dark Knight Rises with my grandfather. The movie was really long, but I still really enjoyed it. It is the third and final movie of Cristopher Nolan’s ”Dark Knight” trilogy. The film takes place 8 years after the previous film in the series, The Dark Knight, and is the story of Bruce Wayne/Batman, who returns and unites with former jewel burglar Selina Kyle to defeat a terrorist leader named Bane, who wants to destroy Gotham City using a large nuclear bomb built by a Russian scientist named Dr. Leonid Pavel. I really liked the action sequences of the movie and I also liked the music of the film (the music of the film is by Hans Zimmer). The cast of the film includes Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce’s butler, Gary Oldman as Commissioner James Gordon, the Commisioner of the Gotham City Police Department, Tom Hardy as Bane, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a young police officer named John Blake, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, the President of Wayne Enterprises, and Alon Abutbul as Dr. Leonid Pavel. The action sequences in the film are simular to the action sequences in the movie Inception (another film directed by Christopher Nolan, and it stars Leonardo DiCaprio) and I would reccomend this movie for anyone who likes DC Comics movies. This movie will be on DVD and Blu-ray starting December 4, 2012.
