The 87th Academy Awards (The Oscars)

This Sunday was The 87th Oscars, and it was awesome! Neil Patrick Harris was a hilarious host, and I definitely had a fun time watching the awards. I was surprised by some of the results, but not unhappy with them. Here are the results:

Best Picture: Birdman
Best Director: Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu
Best Actor: Eddie Redmayne – The Theory of Everything
Best Actress: Julianne Moore – Still Alice
Best Supporting Actor: J.K. Simmons – Whiplash
Best Supporting Actress: Patricia Arquette – Boyhood
Best Original Screenplay: Birdman
Best Adapted Screenplay: The Imitation Game
Best Animated Feature: Big Hero 6
Best Original Score: The Grand Budapest Hotel
Best Original Song: Glory – Selma
Best Cinematography: Birdman
Best Film Editing: Whiplash
Best Production Design: The Grand Budapest Hotel
Best Makeup and Hairstyling: The Grand Budapest Hotel
Best Costume Design: The Grand Budapest Hotel
Best Animated Short: Feast
Best Visual Effects: Interstellar
Best Sound Editing: American Sniper
Best Sound Mixing: Whiplash

I think How to Train Your Dragon 2 should have won Best Animated Feature, Whiplash should have won Best Adapted Screenplay, and Interstellar should have won Best Original Score, Production Design, and Sound Editing. But other than that, I really enjoyed the Oscars this year! What did you guys think?

  1. My dear Gal,
I watched the award only yesterday because, in Israel, the live show took place at 03.00 a.m. I haven’t seen the movie with Julianne Moore so I can’t judge whether she really deserved it. I also haven’t seen ‘The Theory of Everything’ so I can’t judge the best actor award either. I would have loved to see either Michael Keaton or Patrick….. (forgot his last name, from ‘The Imitation Game’) win! I thought neither of the lead actresses were outstanding. By the way, we saw ‘Birdman’ in Israel and really loved it. It was original, fascinating and all the characters were perfectly casted. By the way, did I tell you that Birdman’s producer was my boss for many many years? Anyway, In my opinion, some parts of the evening were too long and boring and some of the jokes were tasteless. I loved Lady Gaga perform a song from ‘Sound of Music’ though.
I was thinking about you throughout the show and would have loved to watche it together as we did last year.
And, last but not least, congratulation on the new addition to your family. She is beautiful !
    Love, Dvora

  2. Nice read! You may want to check out my review on The Grand Budapest Hotel! ; )

    • Thanks! Your reviews of The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Imitation Game were both great! I really liked both of those movies!

  3. Good read 🙂 I would’ve preferred that “The Grand Budapest Hotel”, in addition to the awards it won, had also won all four awards that “Birdman” won – I really feel it was the best film of 2014. I also think Best Actress should have gone to Rosamund Pike instead, and that “The LEGO Movie” would have been a far more deserving winner of Best Animated Feature. When will you do a list of your favourite movies, perhaps a Top 10? Also, you can check out my own post in reaction to this year’s Oscars: http://thebackrowsa.blogspot.com/2015/02/grand-and-glory-ous-oscars-socially.html

    • I will definitely do a top 10 of 2014 if you would like me to. I didn’t think The Grand Budapest Hotel was Oscar worhty, besides the Set Design and Score, but I still really like the movie, as I am a huge fan of Wes Anderson and his style.
