Life of Pi

My rating:

This Ang Lee film tells about Piscine Molitor “Pi” Patel (Suraj Sharma), a 16-year-old Indian boy who is the only survivor of a sinking Japanese freighter and finds himself on a small life boat with a spotted hyena, a mother orangutan who had lost her children in the shipwreck, a wounded zebra and an adult male Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. Pi must survive with the animals and survive at sea. Eventually, after furious fighting between the animals, only Richard Parker survives, and the 2 survivors form a unique friendship after lots of efforts.

Other cast members include Irrfan Khan as the adult Pi, Tabu as Pi’s mother, Adil Hussain as Pi’s father, Gerard Depardieu as a cook and Rafe Spall as a writer. Directed by Ang Lee, the film is based on Yann Martel’s 2001 novel of the same name. The producers are Ang Lee, Gil Netter and David Womark and the screenwriter is David Magee.

This movie is a story of ingenuity, adventure, courage and faith. It concludes with a message that belief in God is indeed the “better story” (according to Pi). I really enjoyed this film after I saw it with my grandmother on Thursday and I would recommend this film for adults and teenagers, but especially not kids around my age or younger because they would find it too scary or boring. Also, they might not understand the plot of the movie, but  I think adults will really like this movie.

Hotel Transylvania

My rating:

Hotel Transylvania is a hilarious, animated film starring Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, Kevin James and Fran Drescher. In this film, Dracula (voiced by Adam Sandler) owns a resort named Hotel Transylvania, where monsters and their families can rest in peace, away from the danger of humans. On one special weekend, Dracula invites the world’s most famous monsters, including Frankenstein’s monster (voiced by Kevin James), his bride (voiced by Fran Drescher), a family of werewolves (the parents, Wayne and Wanda, are voiced by Steve Buscemi and Molly Shannon), Murray the Mummy (voiced by Cee Lo Green), Griffin the Invisible Man (voiced by David Spade), Bigfoot, the Blob, and many other famous monsters to celebrate his daughter, Mavis(voiced by Selena Gomez)’s 118th birthday. But an ordinary 21-year-old human traveler named Jonathan (voiced by Andy Samberg) accidentally enters the hotel and falls in love with Mavis.

I really enjoyed this film and I thought it was hilarious. I would recommend this movie for children of all ages. Even adults will enjoy this movie. My brother and my dad also really enjoyed it. It is now one of my favorite animated movies of all time!

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

My rating:

Yesterday, I saw the movie Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. I really enjoyed the movie and thought it is really cool. It is the third and final installment to George Lucas’ ”Star Wars” prequel trilogy, in which the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker (played by Hayden Christensen) becomes the chancellor of the republic’s new apprentice after Count Dooku(AKA Darth Tyranus) was killed by Anakin (the chancellor’s name is Chancellor Palpatine, who is really the evil Darth Sidious, and he is played by Ian McDiarmid) joins the Dark Side and becomes the evil Darth Vader, changing the fate of the galaxy forever. Natalie Portman plays Padme Amidala, the fomer Queen of Naboo, who is also Anakin’s secret wife, and she has recently become pregnant with twins, who she later names Luke and Leia. Also, Ewan McGregor plays Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Jedi Master who is Anakin’s former master. I also really like the action sequences of the movie and I would recommend this movie for everyone, including kids and adults. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is now on DVD and Blu-ray and it will be re-released in theaters in 3D in the United States starting October 11, 2013.

Men in Black 3

My rating:

Yesterday, I saw the movie Men in Black 3. I really enjoyed the movie and thought it was really funny. I also really liked the action sequences of the movie. Barry Sonnenfeld directs the film, like he also directed the first 2 films in the ”Men in Black” trilogy. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones return to portray the two MIB senior agents J and K. One day, an intergalactic criminal named Boris the Animal (played by Jemaine Clement) escapes from jail and wants to get revenge on K. K had shot of one of Boris’ arms and aressted him on July 16, 1969. In order to get revenge, Boris time-jumps back to July 16, 1969 and kills the 1969 version of K (played by Josh Brolin). J soon realizes that Boris had time-jumped to 1969 and killed the younger K, so he time-jumps to July 15, 1969 (a day before the modern-day Boris arrived and killed the younger K), where he meets the 29-year old K and together, they go on a mission to kill the younger Boris before the modern-day Boris arrives and kills the younger K. I also really liked Emma Thompson’s role as Agent O, the head of MIB in present day(Alice Eve plays the 1969 version of Agent O), and I also really liked Michael Stulbarg’s role as Griffin, an alien who moved to Earth after his own planet was destroyed. I would reccomend this movie for anyone who likes the ”Men in Black” trilogy or any other science fiction movies.

The Dark Knight Rises

My rating: ratings4

2 days ago, I saw the movie The Dark Knight Rises with my grandfather. The movie was really long, but I still really enjoyed it. It is the third and final movie of Cristopher Nolan’s ”Dark Knight” trilogy. The film takes place 8 years after the previous film in the series, The Dark Knight, and is the story of Bruce Wayne/Batman, who returns and unites with former jewel burglar Selina Kyle to defeat a terrorist leader named Bane, who wants to destroy Gotham City using a large nuclear bomb built by a Russian scientist named Dr. Leonid Pavel. I really liked the action sequences of the movie and I also liked the music of the film (the music of the film is by Hans Zimmer). The cast of the film includes Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce’s butler, Gary Oldman as Commissioner James Gordon, the Commisioner of the Gotham City Police Department, Tom Hardy as Bane, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a young police officer named John Blake, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, the President of Wayne Enterprises, and Alon Abutbul as Dr. Leonid Pavel. The action sequences in the film are simular to the action sequences in the movie Inception (another film directed by Christopher Nolan, and it stars Leonardo DiCaprio) and I would reccomend this movie for anyone who likes DC Comics movies. This movie will be on DVD and Blu-ray starting December 4, 2012.

Cars 2

My rating:

Yesterday, I saw the movie Cars 2 again and I enjoyed it like I did in theaters. It’s not as good as the first but will still amuse kids. It is about a tow truck named Mater, who is a race car named Lightning McQueen’s best friend. But one day, during one of Lightning’s races, he is mistaken as  a spy by two secret agents named Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell, who want to stop a car named Professor Zundapp. Professor Z wants to destroy race cars who are racing in the World Grand Prix, which is a race around Tokyo, Italy, and London. Now Mater must help Finn and Holley defeat Professor Z and save the cars who are racing in the World Grand Prix, which includes Lightning. The voice cast of the movie includes Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen, Larry the Cable Guy as Mater, Micheal Caine as Finn McMissile, and Emily Mortimer As Holley Shiftwell. I think it is a movie about friendship and I would recommend this movie for everyone, including adults.

Also, here is the website of the movie. It includes fun games, cool videos (which includes trailes and clips), and more! And here is the Cars 2 trailer.

Ice Age: Continental Drift

My rating:

Yesterday, I went to see the movie Ice Age: Continental Drift with my grandmother and my brother. We really enjoyed the movie and thought it was funny. It is about Manny, a mammoth, Sid, a sloth, and Diego, a saber-toothed cat, who get seperated from Ellie, Manny’s wife, and Peaches, their teenage daughter by the Continental Drift. It is a true theory of how the ancient “supercontinent” Pangea broke into 7 continents, which include Africa, Europe, Asia, North and South America and Antarctica(In the movie, the Continental Drift is caused by a saber-toothed squirrel named Scrat, who tries to get his acorn in all 4 movies, but barely ever succeeds). In the ocean, they find a huge pirate ship led by an orangutan named Captain Gutt, and the crew includes an elephant seal named Flynn,a small rabbit named Squint, and a saber-toothed cat named Shira, with whom Diego later falls in love. Together, Manny, Sid and Diego must defeat the pirates and reunite with Ellie and Peaches. The movie tells us about the importance of true values like family, friendship and love, is against negative characteristics of pursuit of power and betrayal. I really liked the voice cast of the movie, which includes Ray Romano as Manny, Keke Palmer as Peaches, Queen Latifah as Ellie, Peter Dinklage as Captain Gutt, Jennifer Lopez as Shira, Josh Gad as Louis, a molehog who is Peaches’ best friend, and Drake as Ethan, a mammoth who Peaches has a crush on.

The Amazing Spider-Man

My rating:

2 days ago, I went to see the movie The Amazing Spider-Man with my friend and his parents. I really enjoyed the movie and now it is one of my favorites. It is about a teenage orphan named Peter Parker, who lives with his aunt and uncle, gets bit by a spider and gets new powers like web-shooting and wall-climbing. He soon becomes Spider-Man. But when Dr. Curt Connors, a man who used to work with Peter’s father, tries to use lizard DNA to get his arm back, he turns into The Lizard and tries to turn all living human beings into lizards. Now Spider-Man must defeat The Lizard and save New York City. In the end, Spider-Man replaces the lizard DNA cloud with an antidote cloud, which turns The Lizard back into Dr. Curt Connors. I really liked Andrew Garfield’s role as Peter Parker/ Spider-Man and Emma Stone’s role as Gwen Stacy. I would recommend this movie for anyone who likes Marvel movies.

It is about 2 Jedi, Obi-Wan and Anakin, who continue to defend the galaxy from the Dark Side as the encounter many enemies on the way. I would recommend this movie for kids and adults.
